1.
Remove control relays, Figs. 63 and 64.
2.
Inspect pump motor relay continuity as follows:
a. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
b. Ensure there is no continuity between terminals 3 and 4.
c. On MR2 and 1992 Cressida, Previa and Supra models, ensure there is no continuity between terminals 1 and 4.
3.
On all models, inspect pump motor relay operation as follows:
a. Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2.
b. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 3 and 4.
c. Ensure there is no continuity between terminals 1 and 4.
4.
Inspect solenoid relay continuity as follows:
a. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 1 and 3.
b. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 2 and 4.
c. Ensure there is no continuity between terminals 4 and 5.
5.
Inspect solenoid relay operation as follows:
a. Apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 3.
b. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 4 and 5.
c. Ensure there is no continuity between terminals 2 and 4.
d. If operation is not as specified, replace relay.
6.
On 1989 Celica 2WD models, inspect continuity of control relay as follows:
a. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 5 and 7.
b. Ensure there is no continuity between terminals 1 and 3.
7.
On all except 1992 models, inspect operation of motor relay circuit as follows:
a. Connect positive lead from battery to terminal 5 and negative lead to terminal 7.
b. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 1 and 3.
8.
On all except 1992 models, inspect continuity of solenoid relay circuit as follows:
a. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 6 and 7.
b. Ensure there is no continuity between terminals 2 and 4.
c. Ensure there is continuity between terminals 2 and 10 or 8.
d. Connect positive lead from ohmmeter to terminal 2 and connect negative lead to terminal 9. Ensure there is continuity between terminals.
e. Connect two leads in reverse, then check that there is no continuity between terminals.

On all except 1992 models, inspect operation of solenoid relay circuit as follows:
