Wiper Relay: Testing and Inspection

1.

Inspect for continuity between terminals 1 and 2, no continuity should be indicated.

2.

Ensure continuity between terminals 1 and 5, Fig. 26.

If continuity is not as indicated, replace relay.

4.

Inspect intermittent relay operation as follows:
a. Connect battery positive lead to terminal 2 and negative lead to terminal 7.
b. Connect voltmeter positive lead to terminal 5 and negative lead to terminal 7, no voltage should be indicated.
c. Connect battery negative lead to terminal 4, ensure voltage changes as shown in Fig. 27.
d. Connect terminals 3 and 8, ensure voltage changes as shown in Fig. 28.
e. If operation is not as indicated, replace relay.

5.

Inspect washer relay operation as follows:
a. Connect positive battery lead to terminal 2 and negative to terminal 7.
b. Connect voltmeter positive lead to terminal 7 and negative to terminal 5.
c. Connect battery negative lead to terminal 10, ensure voltage changes from battery voltage to no voltage.
d. Disconnect battery negative lead from terminal 10, ensure voltage changes to no voltage in about 2.5 seconds.
e. If operation is not as indicated, replace relay.
