Steering Angle Sensor: Testing and Inspection
1.
On 1985-86 Cressida, proceed as follows:
a. Place front wheels in straight ahead position, then place mode select switch in ``Normal'' position.

b. Place jumper wire across service connector diagnosis connectors ``Tem'' and ``E2,'' Fig. 22.
c. Turn ignition switch ``On,'' then check for TEMS system indicator lamps flashing after 2 seconds. If lamps do not flash, a problem is
indicated in the mode selector switch, service connector or the TEMS computer.
d. Rotate steering wheel 1/4 turn to the right, then ensure right TEMS system indicator lamp flashes and the left lamp is out.
e. Return steering wheel to straight ahead position, then rotate steering wheel 1/4 turn to the left. The left indicator lamp should flash and the
right indicator lamp should go out. If lamps do not respond as indicated, proceed to step 6 to locate fault.

f.
Turn ignition switch ``On,'' then measure voltage between steering sensor connector terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 26. Voltage should be 3-4 volts.
g. Measure voltage between steering sensor connector terminals 3, 4 and 2, while slowly turning steering wheel, Fig. 26. Voltage should be
between 5 and 0 volts.
h. Remove steering sensor disc, ensuring no foreign material is in groove of sensor or sensor is bent. Reinstall sensor and disc.
