Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

Removal & Installation and Disassembly & Reassembly 

1. REMOVE HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR

a. Remove the floor carpet, and disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
b. Remove the 2 nuts, the sensor cover and heated oxygen sensor.

2. REMOVE EXHAUST FRONT PIPE ASSY NO.2
3. REMOVE W/CATALYST CONVERTER ASSY
4. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY FRONT
5. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY CENTER
6. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY TAIL
7. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY TAIL

8. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY CENTER

a. Using vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression spring.

Free length: 42 mm (1.6535 inch) 
If the free length is not as specified, replace the compression spring.

b. Install a new gasket and the center pipe to the tail pipe. 

Torque: 48 Nm (490 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.) 

9. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY FRONT

a. Using vernier calipers, measure the free length of the compression spring.

Free length: 43 mm (1.6929 inch) 
If the free length is not as specified, replace the compression spring.

b. Install a new gasket and the front pipe to the center pipe. 

Torque: 48 Nm (490 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.) 

c. Install a new gasket and the front pipe to the exhaust manifold.

Torque: 62 Nm (633 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.) 

10. INSTALL W/CATALYST CONVERTER ASSY

a. Install a new gasket and the converter to the exhaust manifold. 

Torque: 62 Nm (633 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.) 

11. INSTALL EXHAUST FRONT PIPE ASSY NO.2

a. Install a new gasket and the exhaust pipe No. 2 to the converter and front pipe.

Torque: 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 42 ft. lbs.) 

12. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR

a. Install a new gasket, the heated oxygen sensor and sensor cover. 

Torque: 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.) 

13. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
