b. Using SST, remove the steering rack end sub assembly (LH side) and the claw washer.

c. Using SST, remove the steering rack end sub assembly (RH side) and the claw washer.

HINT: Using SST, hold the rack and remove the steering rack end sub-assembly.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY
a. Secure the tie rod assembly (LH side) in a vise.
b. Install the nut to the stud bolt.
c. Flip the ball joint back and forth 5 times or more.
d. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Turning torque: 0.49 to 3.43 Nm (5.0 to 35.0 kgf-cm, 4.3 to 30.4 inch lbs.)
If turning torque is not within the specified range, replace the tie rod assembly (LH side).
e. Inspect the RH side by using the same procedure as for the LH side.
2. INSPECT TOTAL PRELOAD
a. Temporarily install the left and right steering rack ends to prevent steering rack over stroke.
