Throttle Body: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION 

Inspect Throttle Body 

1. Check that the throttle linkage moves smoothly.

2. Check the vacuum at each port.

-

Start the engine.

-

Check the vacuum with your finger.

Ports P, E and R: At idle - no vacuum, At 3,500 rpm - vacuum 

Inspect Throttle Position Sensor 

1. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
2. Apply vacuum to the throttle opener.
3. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between each terminal.

With throttle valve fully closed:

resistance between terminals VTA and E2:  0.2 - 5.7 k ohms
resistance between terminals IDL and E2:  2.3 k ohms or less

With throttle valve fully open:

resistance between terminals VTA and E2:  2.0 - 10.2 k ohms
resistance between terminals IDL and E2:  infinity

Always:

resistance between terminals VC and E2:  2.5 - 5.9 k ohms 

4. Reconnect the throttle position sensor connector.

Inspect and Adjust Dashpot 

1. Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
2. Connect tachometer. Connect the test probe of a tachometer to terminal IG- of the data link connector 1.

NOTE:  Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the igniter and/or ignition coil. As some tachometers
are not compatible with this ignition system, we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of your unit before use.
