AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR SHAFT OIL SEAL: REPLACEMENT

REPLACEMENT

HINT:

Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER COVER PLUG See: Fluid - Differential/Service and Repair
2. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL DRAIN PLUG See: Fluid - Differential/Service and Repair
3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
4. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

HINT:  Refer to the procedure up to Remove Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly  See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Exhaust
Pipe/Service and Repair/Removal.

5. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

HINT:  Refer to the procedure up to Remove Drive Shaft Assembly  See: Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Service and
Repair/Removal and Replacement/Rear Drive Shaft Assembly/Removal.

6. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR SHAFT OIL SEAL

(a) Using SST, remove the rear differential side gear shaft oil seal.

SST: 09308-00010

7. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR SHAFT OIL SEAL

(a) Apply a light coat of MP grease to the lip of a new rear differential side gear shaft oil seal.

(b) Using SST and a hammer, tap the rear differential side gear shaft oil seal into the rear differential carrier and differential side bearing retainer.

SST: 09554-22010
Oil seal driven in depth (A):
4.2 to 4.8 mm (0.165 to 0.189 in.)

8. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

HINT:  Refer to the procedure up to Install Drive Shaft Assembly  See: Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints/Axle Shaft Assembly/Service and
Repair/Removal and Replacement/Rear Drive Shaft Assembly/Installation.

9. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL See: Fluid - Differential/Service and Repair

10. INSPECT AND ADJUST DIFFERENTIAL OIL See: Fluid - Differential/Service and Repair
11. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

HINT:  Refer to the procedure up to Install Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly  See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Exhaust
Pipe/Service and Repair/Installation.

12. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
