Radiator Cooling Fan Motor Relay: Testing and Inspection
1. Check No. 1 fan relay, located in No. 5 junction block of front luggage compartment, as follows. If continuity checks are not as specified, replace
relay.
a. Check that continuity is present between terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 11.
Fig. 1 Checking Cooling Fan Motor Relay
b. Ensure continuity exists between terminals 3 and 4.
2. Check No. 1 fan relay operation as follows:
a. Apply battery voltage across terminals 1 and 2.
b. No continuity should exist between terminals 3 and 4.
c. If continuity is not as specified, replace relay.
3. On models with A/C, check No. 2 fan relay as follows:
a. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity is present between terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 12.
Fig. 12 No. 2 Cooling Fan Relay Connector.
b. Ensure continuity exists between terminals 3 and 4.
c. Ensure continuity does not exist between terminals 3 and 5.
d. If continuity checks are not as specified, replace relay.
4. On models less A/C, check No. 2 fan relay operation as follows:
a. Apply battery voltage across terminals 1 and 2.
b. Check continuity is absent between terminals 3 and 4.
c. Check continuity is present between terminals 3 and 5.
d. If continuity is not as specified, replace relay.
5. Check no. 3 fan relay as follows:
a. Ensure continuity is present between terminals 1 and 2, Fig. 13.
