Fuel Gauge: Testing and Inspection
1.
Disconnect connector from sender gauge.
2.
Turn ignition switch to On position, then check receiver gauge needle indicates Empty.
Fig. 8 Fuel Receiver Gauge Inspection
3.
Connect terminals 1 and 3 on wire harness side connector through a 3.4W test bulb, Fig. 8.
4.
Turn ignition switch On, then ensure bulb lights and receiver gauge needle moves toward full side.

5.
Measure resistance between terminals A, B and C, Fig. 9. Resistance should be as follows:
a. A-B: about 101.9 ohms.
b. A-C: about 203.2 ohms.
c. B-C: about 101.3 ohms.
d. If resistance is not as specified, replace receiver gauge.

6.
Connect a series of three 1.5 volt dry cell batteries, then connect the positive lead from the dry cell batteries to terminal 1 through a 3.4W test bulb
and the negative lead to terminal 3, Fig. 10.
7.
Ensure voltage rises between terminals 1 and 3 as the float is moved from top to bottom position.
8.
Measure resistance between terminals 1 and 3 for each float position. Resistance should be as follows:
a. Full position: about 2.0-4.0 ohms.
b. Empty position: about 103.0-117.0 ohms.
c. If resistance is not as specified, replace sender gauge.
