EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection

OPERATION INSPECTION

Refer to EGR system inspection procedures.

EGR VALVE OFF-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. DISCONNECT THROTTLE BODY FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD.
2. REMOVE EGR VALVE.

California only: Disconnect the EGR gas temperature sensor connector.

Disconnect these hoses from the EGR valve:

1. Vacuum hose (from port E of VSV).
2. EGR hose (from EGR vacuum modulator).

Loosen the 2 union nuts.

Remove the 2 nuts, EGR valve and gasket.

3. INSPECT EGR VALVE.

Check for sticking and heavy carbon deposits. 

-

If a problem is found, replace the valve.

4. REINSTALL EGR VALVE.

Install a new gasket and the EGR valve with the 2 nuts.

Torque: 13 Nm (9 ft.lb) 

-

Install the EGR pipe with the 2 union nuts.

Torque: 59 Nm (43 ft.lb)
