Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation

W/4 WHEEL DRIVE

1.

Disconnect power steering hoses from steering gear.

2.

Mark relationship of yoke and worm shaft for reference during assembly.

3.

Disconnect intermediate shaft from worm shaft by loosening joint yoke bolt and compressing intermediate shaft.

4.

Remove cotter pin and plug from drag link and disconnect drag link from pitman arm.

5.

Disconnect pitman arm from steering gear.

6.

Remove bolts securing steering gear to chassis, then remove steering gear.

7.

Reverse procedure to install. Check to ensure that joint yoke and worm shaft marks align.

2 WHEEL DRIVE

1.

Mark relative position between coupling and worm shaft, then remove coupling attaching bolt.

2.

Loosen pitman arm mount nut, then disconnect relay rod from pitman arm, using tool No. 09611-22012 or equivalent.

3.

Remove gear housing attaching bolts, then the gear housing.

4.

Reverse procedure to install.
