Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
W/FS17 Type Disc, 2 Wheel Drive

Pads, Replace
1.
Check that pad thickness is no less than .039 inch. Replace pads if thinner.
2.
Raise and support vehicle and remove front wheel.
3.
Remove caliper pin on subpin side, Fig. 5.
4.
Pivot caliper up and support, leaving brake hose connected.
5.
Remove brake pads, anti-squeal shim and 4 support plates.
6.
Reverse procedure to install.
Caliper, Replace
1.
Raise and support vehicle and remove front wheel.
2.
Disconnect brake hose and use suitable container to catch brake fluid.
3.
Remove bracket from caliper.
4.
Remove 2 slide pins and caliper.
5.
Remove brake pads, anti-squeal shim, and 4 support plates.
6.
If necessary, remove slide bushing and pin boots.
Disc, Replace
1.
Remove caliper as described under "Caliper, Replace", leaving brake hose connected.
2.
Remove torque plate.
3.
Remove cap, cotter pin, nut lock, and nut.
4.
Remove hub and disc together with outer bearing and thrust washer.
5.
Remove disc from hub.
6.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque disc to hub bolts 40-54 ft. lbs.
Caliper Overhaul
1.
Remove caliper as described under "Caliper, Replace".
2.
Using screwdriver, remove cylinder boot set ring and boot.
3.
Place suitable rag or block between caliper and piston. Using compressed air, remove piston.
4.
Using screwdriver, remove piston seal.
