Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
W/PD60 Type Disc, 2 Wheel Drive

Pads, Replace

1.

Raise and support vehicle and remove tire and wheel assembly.

2.

Remove caliper attaching bolts, Fig. 6, and the caliper, supporting caliper out of way so that brake hose is not stretched.

3.

Remove two anti-rattle springs, brake pads, anti-squeal shims and the four support plates.

4.

Reverse procedure to install, torquing caliper mounting bolts to 29 ft. lbs.

Caliper, Replace

1.

Raise and support vehicle and remove tire and wheel assembly.

2.

Disconnect brake line at caliper.

3.

Remove bracket from caliper.

4.

Remove two caliper attaching bolts and the caliper.

5.

Remove anti-rattle springs, brake pads, anti-squeal shims and support plates.

6.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque bracket attaching bolts to 13 ft. lbs. and the brake line to 11 ft. lbs.

Disc, Replace

1.

Remove caliper as previously described.

2.

Remove torque plate from knuckle.

3.

Remove axle hub.

4.

Remove disc attaching bolts and the disc.

5.

Reverse procedure to install, torquing disc attaching bolts to 47 ft. lbs.

Caliper Overhaul

1.

Remove caliper as previously described.

2.

Remove two cylinder slide bushings, four dust boots and two collars.

3.

Using screwdriver, remove cylinder boot set ring and boot.

4.

Place a piece of cloth between piston and cylinder and, using compressed air, remove piston from cylinder.

5.

Using screwdriver, remove piston seal from brake cylinder.

6.

Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to all movable components.

7.

Install piston seal and piston in cylinder.

8.

Install cylinder boot and set ring in cylinder.

9.

Install collar and dust boot in caliper, ensuring that boots are secured firmly to each brake cylinder groove.

10.

Install bushing into boots, ensuring boots are secured firmly to each bushing groove.
