EFE Valve: Description and Operation

The heat control valve is used to direct exhaust gases past the intake manifold in order to quickly heat the manifold. The valve is mounted in the exhaust
manifold and operated by a bi-metallic spring.

Inspection 

1.

Rotate valve counterweight through full range of travel, ensuring that valve does not bind or stick in any position.

2.

Observe valve with engine cold. Valve counterweight should be in up position.

3.

Start engine and run until it reaches normal operating temperature, then inspect valve. Counterweight should be in lower position.

4.

Repair or replace valve if it fails to operate as outlined.
