NOTE: The 7M-GTE engine does not use a distributor. In its place a cam position sensor is used. For service procedures, refer to CAM POSITION
SENSOR SERVICE.

1.

Remove distributor cap, rotor and shaft packing, Fig. 24.

2.

Remove retaining nuts and disconnect wires from ignition coil, noting position for assembly.

3.

Remove 4 retaining screws and the ignition coil.

4.

Remove terminal nuts and screws and disconnect wiring from igniter, noting position for assembly.

5.

Remove 2 retaining screws and the igniter.

6.

Remove vacuum advance capsule retaining screws, clip securing actuator and the capsule.

7.

Remove distributor wiring harness.

8.

Pry out reluctor retaining spring and remove reluctor (signal rotor).

9.

Remove two retaining screws and breaker plate/pick-up coil assembly.

10.

Remove governor springs.

11.

Remove screw from top of distributor shaft, and the reluctor shaft.

12.

Remove clips securing centrifugal advance weights and the weights.

13.

Ensure that shaft bearing rotates freely, without excessive side play and that reluctor shaft fits properly on distributor shaft.

14.

Replace components as needed and reverse procedure to assemble.
