TRANSFER CASE

To reduce gear chattering from the transfer case during high speed driving, a subgear has been added to the low and counter gears as shown below.

Thrust Spring

Subgear rotational load and axial position are maintained by the use of a thrust spring. Both the subgear and main gear simultaneously mesh with the
driven gear..

The subgears for the low and counter gears have one additional tooth. Due to the additional tooth, as the sub/main gear combination meshes with the
driven gear, gear "backlash" is kept to a minimum resulting in gear noise reduction.
