Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation
2WD
1.
Mark relative position between coupling and worm shaft, then remove coupling attaching bolt.
2.
Loosen pitman arm mount nut, then disconnect relay rod from pitman arm, using tool No. 09611-22012 or equivalent.
3.
Remove gear housing attaching bolts, then the gear housing.
4.
Reverse procedure to install.
4WD
1.
Remove joint protector set bolt, then mark relative position between universal joint and worm shaft.
2.
Remove two universal joint attaching bolts, then disconnect universal joint from worm shaft.
3.
Remove pitman arm set nut, then disconnect pitman arm from steering gear housing, using tool No. 09628-62011 or equivalent.
4.
Remove gear housing attaching bolts, then the gear housing.
