Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Testing and Inspection
1.
Ensure battery voltage is approximately 12 volts.
2.
On 4WD Celica models, remove vinyl tube covering wire harness of actuator checker tool No. 0990-00150, then tape separated harness.
3.
On all models, disconnect actuator connectors.
4.
Connect actuator checker, tool Nos. 09990-00150, 09990-00200, 09990-00205 or 09990-00210 to actuator and inspect as follows:
a. On Celica 2WD models, connect actuator checker to actuator control relay and body side wire harness using sub-wire harness No.
09990-00165.
b. On 4WD Celica, Supra, Cressida, Pickup, 4Runner and 1989-91 Camry and 1992 MR2 and Previa models, connect actuator checker to
actuator and body side wire harness using sub-wire harness.
c. On 1992 Camry models, connect actuator checker to actuator control relay and body side wire harness through sub wire harness C and E.
d. On all models, connect red cable of checker to battery positive terminal and black to negative terminal. Connect black cable of sub-wire
harness to battery negative terminal or body ground.
e. On Celica, Camry, 1991 MR2 and 1990-91 Pickup and 4Runner models, place checker "Sheet A" tool No. 09990-00163 on actuator
checker.
f.
On Supra and Cressida models, substitute - "motor" for - "sub-motor", and "solenoid" for "main" switch on actuator when referring to
following steps.
g. On all models, start engine and run at idle.
h. On models with four wheel ABS, turn selector switch of actuator checker to "Front RH" position.
i.
On models with four wheel ABS, press and hold in "motor" switch for a few seconds.
j.
On models equipped with rear wheel ABS, turn selector switch to "Rear" position.
k. On all models, depress brake pedal and hold, then press power switch, ensure brake pedal does not go down. Do not press power switch for
more than 10 seconds. Release power switch, ensure brake pedal goes down, then press motor switch, ensuring pedal returns.
l.
Release pedal.
m. Press motor switch for a few seconds, then press pedal and hold it for 15 seconds. Press motor switch for a few seconds and ensure brake pedal
does not pulsate.
n. Inspect other wheels by repeating steps f through i.
o. After testing has been completed remove "Sheet A" from actuator checker and sub-wire harness from actuator. Connect actuator and/or control
relay connectors.
p. Clear diagnostic (trouble) codes.
