Disassembly

1.

Position power steering pump in suitable soft-jawed vise.

2.

Using suitable tool, remove pump pulley.

3.

Remove suction port union and O-ring, Fig. 41.

4.

Remove pressure port union and O-ring, then remove flow control valve and spring.

5.

Place installation alignment marks on front and rear housing, then remove rear housing attaching bolts, O-rings and gasket.

6.

Remove wave washer and rear plate.

7.

Remove cam ring, rotor and vane plates.

8.

Using suitable pliers, remove straight pins from front housing.

9.

Using suitable pliers, remove bearing wire.

10.

Using tool No. 09515-21010 or equivalent and an extension bar, press out pump shaft with bearing. Do not allow assembly to drop.

Inspection & Repair

1.

Using suitable micrometer, measure height, thickness and length of vane plates. Minimum height should be .315 inch, thickness, .0697 inch and
length .5894 inch.

2.

Using suitable feeler gauge, measure clearance between rotor groove and vane plate, maximum indicated should be .0012 inch.

3.

If measurements are not as indicated in steps 1 and 2, replace vane plate and/ or rotor with one having the same mark stamped on cam ring.

4.

Coat flow control valve with power steering fluid, ensuring it falls smoothly into valve hole.

5.

Close one flow control valve hole, then apply compressed air (57-71 psi) to opposite side, ensuring air does not come out end holes.

6.

If inspections are not as indicated in steps 4 and 5, replace flow control valve with one having same letter as on front housing.

7.

Using suitable scale, measure flow control spring free length, 1.42 inch on 1991 models or 1.42 inch on 1992 models should be indicated, if not
replace spring.

8.

If required, replace oil seal as follows:
a. Using suitable tool, pry out oil seal.
