Brake Rotor/Disc: Testing and Inspection
Rear
Rear Disc Brake Components
DISC THICKNESS
1. Using a micrometer, measure the Disc thickness.
Standard thickness: 18.0 mm (0.709 inch)
Minimum thickness: 16.5 mm (0.650 inch)
2. Replace the Disc if the Disc's thickness is at the minimum thickness or less. Replace the Disc or grind it on a lathe if it is badly scored or worn
unevenly.
DISC RUNOUT
1. Using a dial indicator, measure Disc runout at a position 10 mm (0.39 inch) from the outer edge of the Disc.
Maximum Disc runout: 0.10 mm (0.0039 inch)
2. If the Disc's runout is maximum value or greater, check the bearing play in the axial direction and check the Axle Hub runout.
3. If the bearing play and Axle Hub runout are not abnormal, adjust the Disc runout or grind it on a "On-Car" brake lathe.
DRUM-IN-HAT
Measure Disc inside diameter.
1. Using a vernier calipers, measure the inside diameter of the Disc.
Standard inside diameter: 190 mm (7.48 inch)
Maximum inside diameter: 191 mm (7.52 inch)
2. Replace the Disc if the inside diameter is at the maximum value or more. Replace the Disc or grind it with a lathe if the Disc is scored or is worn
unevenly.
