If the preload is less than the specification, retighten the nut 13 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) at a time until the specified preload is reached.
Maximum torque: 235 Nm (174 ft. lbs.)
If the maximum torque is exceeded while retightening the nut, replace the spacer and repeat the preload procedure. Do not back off the nut to
reduce the preload.
21. Recheck ring gear backlash.
22. Recheck tooth contact between ring gear and drive pinion.
23. Check runout of companion flange.
24. Stake drive pinion nut.
25. Install side gear shaft oil seals.
a.Using SST # 09550 - 22011(09550 - 00032), 09950 - 70010(09951 - 07150) or equivalents and a hammer, install a new oil seal until its surface
is flush with the differential carrier end.
b.Apply Multipurpose (MP) grease to the oil seal lip.
26. Install differential tube. Install the differential tube to the differential carrier with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
27. Install side gear shafts. Install the side gear shaft to the differential carrier and secure the shaft with a new snap ring.
28. Install differential carrier cover.
a. Remove any old Formed In Place Gasket (FIPG) material and be careful not to drop oil on the contact surfaces of the differential carrier and
carrier cover.
