Fluid Pump: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: For oil pump body removal and installation procedures, refer to "Transfer Case Component Parts Replacement."

PUMP BODY INSPECTION 

1. Check driven rotor body clearance. 

Push the driven rotor to one side of the body. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance. 
Standard clearance: 0.075 - 0.170 mm (0.0030 - 0.0067 in.) 
Maximum clearance: 0.170 mm (0.0067 in.) 
If the clearance exceeds the maximum, replace the driven rotor or pump body. 

2. Check both rotors tip clearance.

Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between both rotor tips. 
Standard clearance: 0.10 - 0.22 mm (0.0039-0.0087 in.)  
Maximum clearance: 0.22 mm (0.0087 in.)  
If the clearance exceeds the maximum, replace the drive rotor or driven rotor.

3. Check oil pump plate and oil pump body thrust clearance. 

Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the oil pump plate and oil pump body. 
Standard clearance: 0.03 - 0.13 mm (0.0018 - 0.0051 in.)  
Maximum clearance: 0.13 mm (0.0051 in.)  
If the clearance exceeds the maximum, replace the oil pump plate or oil pump body.
