Radiator Cooling Fan Control Module: Testing and Inspection

COOLING FAN ECU 

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION 
1. INSPECT COOLING FAN ECU

a) Check the cooling fan ECU power source.

1) Disconnect the cooling fan ECU connector.
2) Measure the voltage between the terminals +B and GND.

Standard voltage: 9 to 14 Volts 
If the voltage is not as specified, check the fusible link, fuse, wire harness and fan relay.

3) Reconnect the connectors.

b) Check the wire harness continuity (ECM - cooling fan ECU).

1) Disconnect the ECM connector and cooling fan ECU connector SI.

2) Check the wire harness continuity.

If the result is not as specified, repair or replace the wire harness.

HINT:  The wire harness condition is diagnosed according to the cooling fan operation.

c) Check the ECM power source.
d) Check the RFC signal generation.

NOTICE:  Perform this inspection when the coolant temperature is below 82°C (180°F).

1) Connect TOYOTA electrical tester and AC/DC 400A probe to M+ wire.
2) Connect oscilloscope terminals RFC and E1 of the ECM.

3) Check the signal generation and measure the fan amperage under the conditions shown in the table.
