Valve Guide: Service and Repair

1.

Using a suitable tool and hammer, strike valve guide bushing to break it off at cylinder head casting.

2.

Heat cylinder head to approximately 194°F.

3.

Using suitable valve guide removal tool, tap out bushing.

4.

Measure valve guide bushing bore. Bore must be within 0.435-0.436 inch (11.05-11.077mm) range. If measurement exceeds 0.436 inch, replace
cylinder head.

4.

Install snap ring on new valve guide, then heat cylinder head and install using tool as described above.

5.

Ream new valve guide, if necessary.
