Whenever axle housing or steering knuckle is replaced, the steering knuckle alignment and knuckle bearing preload should be adjusted with
tool No. 09634-60013.
1.
Using tool No. 09308-00010 or equivalent, remove oil seal.
2.
Lubricate bearing with suitable grease, then install bearing and tool No. 09634-60013 into axle housing.
3.
Install a suitable spring scale and measure bearing preload.
4.
Bearing preload should be 6.6-13.2 lbs. Tighten nut at top of tool No. 09634-60013 until specified bearing preload is obtained.
5.
Measure distance A as shown in Fig. 14, then measure distance B as shown in Fig. 15.
6.
Subtract measurement A from measurement B to obtain total adjusting shim thickness required to maintain correct bearing preload.
