Starter Signal: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION
Cranking Signal Diagnosis
1. Using a voltmeter check for voltage between Engine Control Module (ECM) terminals STA and E1 when ignition switch is in crank position.
Voltage should read battery voltage.
^
If voltage OK proceed to step 2.
Cranking Signal Diagnosis
^
If voltage not OK verify voltage at terminal 50 at starter when ignition switch is in crank position.
2. Check wiring between ECM terminal STA and starter terminal 50.
^
If wire OK proceed to step 3.
^
If wire not OK, repair or replace wire as needed.
Cranking Signal Diagnosis
3. Using an ohmmeter check for continuity between ECM terminal E1 and chassis ground.
^
If no continuity is read, repair or replace wire as needed.
^
If all tests show OK but symptom or Data Trouble Code 43 still exist, substitute known good ECM and recheck.
