Fuel Pressure Pulsation Damper: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION
1. Check that battery voltage is at least 12 volts.
2. Disconnect battery negative terminal.
Removing The Union Bolt On The LH Fuel Delivery Pipe
3. Slowly loosen the union bolt of the No.3 fuel rail and remove the union bolt and two gaskets from the delivery pipe.
4. Drain the fuel in the left hand fuel delivery pipe.
Connecting The Fuel Pressure Gauge
5. Connect a suitable fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail using the union bolt and gaskets to provide a tight seal.
6. Wipe off any gasoline that may have escaped when the fuel pipe was disconnected and reconnect negative battery terminal. Turn on ignition
switch.
7. Using a service wire, short terminals +B and FP on the Data Link Connector 1. The fuel pump should operate and cause the pressure gauge to
deflect.
8. Listen at the fuel rail for excessive fuel pump noise and watch the fuel pressure gauge for needle fluctuations, indicating pulsations in the fuel flow.
9. If a problem is found, replace the Fuel Pressure Pulsation Damper.
10. Turn off ignition switch. Disconnect the service wire from the check connector and carefully bleed fuel pressure from the system.
11. Remove fuel pressure gauge from fuel rail and reinstall the Cold Start Injector Fuel Delivery Pipe.
