Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION
1. Check that the throttle linkage moves smoothly.
2. Disconnect the sensor connector. Apply vacuum to the throttle opener.
3. Using a thickness gauge and an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) terminals:
^
Between terminals VTA and E2 with 0 clearance at throttle stop screw: 0.47 to 6.1 k ohms
^
Between terminals IDL and E2 with 0.50 mm (0.020 in) clearance at stop screw: 2.3 k ohms or less
^
Between terminals IDL and E2 with 0.80 mm (0.030 in) clearance at stop screw: infinity
^
Between terminals VTA and E2 with throttle valve fully open: 3.1 to 12.1 k ohms
^
Between terminals VC and E2: 3.9 to 9.0 k ohms
4. If resistance measures out of spec, adjust TPS and recheck. See: Adjustments
5. If unable to adjust properly, replace TPS.
6. Reconnect the sensor connector.
