Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

1.

Obtain audio anti-theft code, if equipped, as outlined in  Technician Safety Information.

2.

Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge system refrigerant.

3.

Disconnect suction tube and liquid tube from cooling unit fitting. Cap or plug fitting openings to keep moisture out of system.

4.

Remove two grommets and drain pipe grommet.

5.

Remove glove compartment door.

6.

Remove instrument panel lower center cover.

7.

Remove glove compartment door reinforcement screws, then the reinforcement.

8.

Remove A/C amplifier.

9.

Disconnect cooling unit connectors, then the cooling unit.

10.

Remove three clips and three screws from cooling unit case, then the upper cooling unit case, Fig. 25.

11.

Remove thermistor and pressure switch, then the lower unit case and evaporator core.

12.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque liquid tube to cooling unit inlet fitting to 10 ft. lb.
b. Torque suction tube to cooling unit outlet fitting to 24 ft. lb.
c. If evaporator is replaced, add 1.4-1.7 fl. oz. of new refrigerant oil to compressor.
d. Reset audio coded anti-theft system, if equipped, as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
