Timing Belt: Service and Repair
Timing Belt Removal
REMOVAL OF TIMING BELT
1. Remove radiator.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove drive belts.
4. Remove water pump pulley.
5. On vehicles with A/C, remove idler pulley bracket together with pulley.
6. Remove cylinder head cover.
(a) Disconnect the PCV hose from the PCV valve.
(b) Remove the three cap nuts, seal washers, cylinder head cover and gasket.
7. Remove crankshaft pulley.
(a) Set No.1 cylinder at TDC/compression. Turn the crankshaft pulley until the timing mark is aligned with the TDC mark.
NOTE: Check that the rocker arms on the No.1 cylinder are loose. If not, turn the crankshaft one full turn.
