Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

Remove the distributor cap.

Connect one end of an ohmmeter to the (-) side of the ignition coil. Connect the other end to the (+) side of the ignition coil.

Primary Coil Testing

Primary Resistance (Cold):

USA

1.3 - 1.5 ohms

CANADA 0.4 - 0.5 ohms

Connect one end of an ohmmeter to the high tension terminal of the ignition coil. Connect the other end of the ohmmeter to the (+) side of the
ignition coil.

Secondary Coil Testing

Secondary Resistance (Cold):

10.2k - 13.8k ohms

If Primary or Secondary coil resistance value is not within specifications, replace ignition coil. For further information refer to SPARK TEST.
