Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Removal/Installation

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.

2.

If equipped, remove engine undercover.

3.

Remove cotter pin and locknut cap.

4.

Depress brake pedal to hold hub stationary, then remove bearing locknut from hub.

5.

Remove brake caliper and rotor.

6.

Remove tie rod end from steering knuckle, then place alignment marks on shock absorber lower bracket and camber adjust cam. Remove bolt(s)
and nut(s) securing steering knuckle to shock absorber, then disconnect steering knuckle from shock absorber, Fig. 1.

7.

Pull axle hub from driveshaft.

8.

If equipped, remove stiffener plate (left side only) from transaxle.

9.

Remove driveshaft from transaxle case using tool 09648-16010.

10.

Install tool 09563-16010 into transaxle housing after driveshaft is removed to prevent oil leakage.

11.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque to specifications.
