REMOVAL

1. Remove the brake drums.
2. Remove the brake shoes.
3. If the vehicle came w/ABS, remove the ABS speed sensor by doing the following.

a. Remove the bolt and the ABS speed sensor. 

NOTE: When installing the sensor, tighten the bolt to 8.0 Nm (71 inch lbs.).

b. Remove the three bolts and the ABS speed sensor wire harness.

NOTE: When installing the harness, tighten the bolts to 5.0 Nm (44 inch lbs.).

4. Remove the two bolts and disconnect the parking brake cable from the backing plate.

NOTE: When installing the cable to the backing plate, tighten the bolts to 8.0 Nm (71 inch lbs.).

5. Disconnect the brake line after doing the following.

a. Using the 09751 - 36011 Special Service Tool (SST), disconnect the brake line from the wheel cylinder.

NOTE: When installing the wheel cylinder, tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

b. Remove the clip and disconnect the brake line from the axle beam.

NOTE: When installing the clip, tighten it to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).

6. Remove the four bolts, then the backing plate. 

NOTE: When installing the backing plate, tighten it to 70 Nm (51 ft. lbs.).

7. Remove the lateral control rod after doing these procedures.

a. Remove the nut and bolt, then disconnect the lateral control rod from the body.

Installation Hint: After stabilizing the suspension, tighten the nut to 113 Nm (83 ft. lbs.).

b. Remove the nut, washer and lateral control rod from the axle beam.

Installation Hint: After stabilizing the suspension, tighten the nut to 83 Nm (61 ft. lbs.).

8. Disconnect the shock absorber from axle beam, doing the following.

a. Using a jack, support the axle beam.
b. Remove the bolt and nut on lower side of the shock absorber.

Installation Hint: After stabilizing the suspension, tighten the bolts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.).
