The fuel cut solenoid valve inspection procedures in the 1987 Tercel Sedan Repair Manual, page FU10, item 3c, may not be an effective procedure
under all conditions. Also, the Fuel Cut Solenoid Wiring schematic is incorrect in the repair manual, as well as the 1987 Tercel Sedan Electrical Wiring
Diagram Manual.

SOLENOID VALVE TEST PROCEDURES (PAGE FU10, ITEM 3c)

When checking for decel fuel cut valve operation (item 3c in the repair manual), the "click" may be difficult to hear or feel, even if the valve is
functioning properly. The following inspection procedures are more positive and should be used to test the fuel cut solenoid valves.

INSPECTION OF SOLENOID VALVE

(a)

Inspect Operation of the Main Solenoid Valve

Using test leads, connect the black wire to the battery positive terminal, and the solenoid valve body to the battery negative terminal.
You should feel a click from the solenoid valve as you touch the ground wire to the solenoid valve body.

(b)

Inspect Operation of the Decel Fuel Cut Valve

Leaving the battery connected as in (a) above, connect a third test lead to the battery negative terminal and touch it to the white/black
wire. You should feel a click when touching the test lead to the wire.

(c)

If you do not feel a click in either of the above tests, the solenoid valve is not operating properly and should be replaced.
