Control Arm: Service and Repair
Lower Suspension Arm

2 WHEEL DRIVE

1.

Remove shock absorber, then using suitable puller remove tie rod end from steering knuckle.

2.

Disconnect stabilizer bar and bracket from lower arm.

3.

Disconnect strut bar from lower arm.

4.

Remove lower ball joint-to-lower suspension arm attaching nuts and bolts.

5.

Scribe alignment mark on control arm adjusting cam, then remove adjusting cam, nut and lower control arm.

6.

Install lower control arm. Position adjusting cam according to alignment marks made in step 5, and finger tighten nut.

7.

Install lower ball joint in control arm and torque to specification.

8.

If removed, connect lower ball joint to steering knuckle and torque nut to specification. Install new cotter pin.

9.

Install shock absorber and torque upper nut and lower bolts to specifications.

10.

Connect strut bar to lower control arm and torque to specification.

11.

Connect stabilizer bar and bracket to lower control arm.

12.

Lower vehicle and allow the weight to rest on suspension. Bounce vehicle to settle suspension and torque adjusting cam nut to specification.

4 WHEEL DRIVE 

1.

Disconnect shock absorber from lower suspension arm.

2.

Disconnect stabilizer bar from lower suspension arm.

3.

Remove cotter pin from lower control arm, then the nut. Using suitable puller, disconnect lower suspension arm from lower ball joint.

4.

Place reference marks between lower suspension arm front and rear alignment cams and mounting flanges.

5.

Remove adjusting cam nuts, adjusting cams and lower suspension arm.

6.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install lower suspension arm. Do not tighten alignment cams at this time.
b. Torque lower suspension arm to ball joint attaching nut specification, then install cotter pin.
c. Torque stabilizer bar attaching bolts and shock absorber lower mounting nut and bolt to specifications.
d. Lower vehicle and allow the weight to rest on suspension. Bounce vehicle several times to settle suspension, then align marks made on cams.
