Check lifters for excessive wear and/or damage. Replace worn or damaged valve lifters as required. Lubricate hydraulic valve lifter before installation.
The 3Y-EC and 4Y-EC engines uses two different types of lifters, Fig. 81, a GM type and a Toyota type. The GM type lifter can be identified by
a squared edged retaining clip with the lifter foot measuring .20 inch. The Toyota type lifter can be identified by a rounded edge retaining clip
with the lifter foot measuring .31 inch.
