Table 1, Diagnostic Plug ALDL and Voltage Supply, Check

 

If no communication can be established between the airbag control unit and TECH 1, trouble-shooting should be carried out according to the following table.

When checking is concluded, continue with section 4.1

 

 

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      battery positive terminal

     to:          battery negative terminal

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      battery positive terminal

     to:          ground

 

 

 

greater than 11.5 V

 

 

greater than 11.5 V

 

 

 

·   Battery discharged

·   Battery terminals corroded

·   Poor ground connection of battery

·   Battery defective

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:      battery +

     to:          fuses in fuse box

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. F

     to:          ground

 

 

 

greater than 11 V

 

 

 

·   Fuse F 1, F 8 or F 24 defective.

·   Lead interruption

     from:      battery +, Ter. 30

     to:          ALDL plug X 13 Ter. F

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:      battery +, Ter. 30

     to:          ALDL plug X 13 Ter. F

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. A

     to:          ground

 

 

 

less than 0.1 V

 

 

 

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. A

     to:          battery +, Ter. 30

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. F

     to:          ALDL plug X 13 Ter. A

 

 

 

greater than 11 V

 

·   Lead interruption

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. A

     to:          ground

 

·   Carry out TECH 1 self-test according to Operating Instructions

 

TECH 1 OK

 

·   See TECH 1 Operating Instructions

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect TECH 1 from ALDL plug

·   Disconnect battery

·   Disconnect wiring harness plug from

     airbag control unit X 90

·   Connect battery

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. G

     to:          ground

 

 

 

 

 

System telltale ON

 

 

 

less than 0.1 V

 

 

 

 

 

 

·   Fault in circuit, system telltale H 23

 

 

·   Short circuit to voltage

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. G

     to:          airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 3 and Ter. 4

 

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. G

     to:          airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 3 and Ter. 4

 

 

 

 

 

less than 2 W

 

 

 

 

 

·   Lead interruption

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. G

     to:          airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 3 and Ter. 4

 

·   Disconnect all wiring harness plugs from control unit which are connected with terminal G of diagnostic plug X 13

     (anti-theft warning system / board computer /Multi-Info-Display...)

 

 

 

 

·   Using multimeter, measure resistance:

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. G

     to:          ground

 

 

 

greater than

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:      ALDL plug X 13 Ter. G

     to:          airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 3 and Ter. 4

 

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 7

     to:          ground

 

 

 

 

less than 0.1 V

 

 

 

 

·   Short circuit to voltage

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 7

     to:          battery +, Ter. 30

 

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 7

     to:          ground

 

 

 

 

 

greater than 11 V

 

 

 

 

 

·   Lead interruption

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 7

     to:          ignition lock S 1 Ter. 15

·   Short circuit to ground

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 7

     to:          ignition lock S 1 Ter. 15

 

 

·   Measure voltage:

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 7

     to:          airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 10

 

 

 

 

 

 

greater than 11 V

 

 

 

 

 

·   Lead interruption

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 10

     to:          ground

·   Short circuit in wiring harness

     from:      airbag control unit wiring harness plug X 90 Ter. 10

     to:          battery +, Ter. 30
