Mechanical Errors without Error Codes  

Notice: 

Errors in the transmission may be of a purely mechanically nature and not always affect the transmission function. The following tables should provide assistance with error determination.  

Loud whining noise in selector lever position N or P (vehicle stationary, engine running at idle speed)  

Probable cause

Incorrect fluid level  

Check fluid level

Malfunction of the converter  

Replace converter

Malfunction of the fluid pump  

Check transmission fluid level, if necessary disassemble fluid pump and clean.

Internal transmission malfunction  

Check transmission fluid level, if necessary disassemble transmission and rectify errors

Squealing noise in selector lever position N or P (vehicle is stationary, engine running at idle speed)  

Probable cause  

Remedy  

Description of the operation  

Loose fastening screws on drive disk  

Replace fastening screws by new ones and tighten with specified tightening torque  

"Recommended Torque Values"  

Drive disk broken  

Replace drive disk  

"Drive Disc, Remove and Install " in group "J"  

Transmission not correctly fastened to engine  

Check correct alignment of engine/transmission, tighten fastening screws with specified torque

Converter chafes on transmission case  

Check transmission fluid level, if necessary disassemble transmission and rectify errors

Internal transmission malfunction  

Check transmission fluid level, if necessary disassemble transmission and rectify errors

Worn bush in fluid pump  

Check transmission fluid level, if necessary replace fluid pump

Internal transmission malfunction  

Check transmission fluid level, if necessary disassemble transmission and rectify errors

Clear knocking or metallic noises in every gear except 4th. gear

Fluid leak between engine and transmission with stationary vehicle and running engine

Fluid level too high

Tighten fastening screws with specified torque

Fluid pump bush damaged or loose

Fluid pump seal ring damaged

Check axle shaft seals, check oil-cooler lines and connections, transmission case and watertight points
