Drill hole. In rear end panel, drill hole Ø 20 mm/0.8 in. with centre bit. Use existing punch marks. Deburr holes and protect against corrosion. Detail 1: Models 53, 53-B, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59 Detail 2: Models 51, 52, 55
Remove, Disconnect Ground cable from battery, wiring harness plug from each rear lamp. |

Install, Connect Insert trailer hitch wiring harness with rubber grommet in rear end panel. Trailer hitch wiring harness plug to body wiring harness plug and to rear lamps. Models 53, 53-B, 54, 56, 57, 58, 59 Connect ground cable to body. Use existing ground connection beside rear lamp. 1 = Connection for permanent positive terminal 30 (red) |

Vehicles with prepared instrument panel wiring harness: Can be recognised from plug contact for turn signal terminal "C".
Remove, Disconnect Remove instrument assembly - see operation "Instrument Assembly, Remove and Install" in group "N". Release fuse box, turn signal relay.
Install, Connect Bulb with socket, instrument assembly, turn signal relay for trailer hitch. Only in conjunction with connection terminal "30" (permanent positive): Remove left panelling parts - see table on following page. |

Remove, Disconnect Unbolt fuse box (1) and detach retaining spring (2), turn fuse box to front (reverse accessible), release cable from output fuse no. 8 and remove. Cut off contact spring and insulate. Fuse output = relay side |

Install, Connect Extend cable (red) from trailer hitch wiring harness and route along body wiring harness to fuse box. Connect cable to output fuse no. 8. Fuse 20 A in position 8, fuse box.

Remove, Disconnect Remove instrument assembly - see operation "Instrument Assembly, Remove and Install" in group "N", turn signal relay, footwell panelling driver's side. Release fuse box, and turn towards front (rear side accessible). |

Install, Connect Connection cable between turn signal terminal "C" and instrument. Install connection cable with flat plug at designated point. |

Install, Connect Connection cable to wiring harness plug (12-pin) with spring contact to position 6 of wiring harness plug - if necessary, modify wiring harness plug and circuit board. Bulb with socket in instrument, instrument assembly. |

Extend cable (red) from trailer hitch wiring harness and route along body wiring harness to fuse box. Connect cable to output of fuse no. 8. Cable from input of fuse no. 8 to positive terminal of battery, fuse 20 A to position 8, turn signal relay, fuse box.
