Brake Caliper – Front Wheel Brake, Overhaul (Steering Knuckle without Integrated Brake Carrier)

  Remove

1. Protective cap
2. Piston
3. Bleeder screw
4. Seal ring
5. Brake calliper housing
6. Sliding sleeve

Remove brake caliper – see operation "Brake Caliper – Front Wheel Brake, Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle without Integrated Brake Carrier)".

  Disassemble

Clamp brake caliper in vice. Insert piece of hard wood in brake pad channel and carefully force out piston with compressed air.

Carefully lever out protective cap with plastic wedge from brake caliper slot. Carefully force out seal ring (1) from groove of brake caliper housing with plastic wedge.

Push sliding sleeves (2) out of housing with screwdriver.

  Clean

Clean piston and bore only with brake fluid or spirit – never use other liquids. Renew seal ring and protective cap.

  Inspect

Check pistons and bore holes for wear – if piston is defective or rusted, completely replace brake caliper.

  Assemble

Coat cylinder bore, piston and seal ring with brake cylinder paste. Push in new guide sleeve. Insert new seal ring (1). Protective cap lip (3) must be seated in brake caliper slot (2). Carefully push in piston until inner lip of protective cap engages in piston groove.

Caution

Ensure that the piston is positioned squarely.

  Install

Install brake caliper – see operation "Brake Caliper – Front Wheel Brake, Remove and Install (Steering Knuckle without Integrated Brake Carrier)".
