The Astra-G is available with a range of familiar and newly developed engines.

DOHC I petrol engine with 66 kW (90 bhp)

DOHC I petrol engine with 74 kW (100 bhp)  

•  X 18 XE1  

DOHC I petrol engine with 85 kW (115 bhp)  

•  X 20 XEV  

DOHC II petrol engine with 100 kW (136 bhp)  

•  X 17 DTL  

OHC II turbodiesel engine with 50 kW (68 bhp)  

•  X 20 DTL  

16V OHC turbodiesel engine with 60 kW (82 bhp)  

 

The engines are distinguished by their:  

 

•  high torque and high specific output  

•  low fuel consumption  

•  low emission level  

•  minimal friction  

•  low noise development  

•  durability  

•  excellent maintenance characteristics  

•  low weight  

•  compact design  

 

All petrol engines comply with the "94/12/EC or EC '96" exhaust standards without resorting to secondary air injection systems, by means of various modifications such as  

 

•  improved control unit calibration  

•  qualitatively improved catalytic converter coatings  

•  catalytic converter positioned closer to the engine.
