OHC Diesel engine (X 20 DTL, Y 20 DTL, Y 20 DTH, Y 22 DTR) - engine identification / engine number > < Alternator, Remove and Install

Starter, Remove and Install

  Remove

Remove lower engine compartment cover – see operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".

Remove fastening bolts for heat shield (1) and remove heat shield from starter.

Remove fastening bolts (2) from wiring trough (3) and rear ground cable. Remove fastening bolts for starter bracket in conjunction with exhaust manifold support (4).

Remove fastening nuts for cable connection (5) from starter.

Detach centre turbocharger heat shield.

Detach starter cable connections from above. Remove starter fastening bolts (6) and remove starter upwards.

Note:   Check starter – see operation "Starter, Check (Starter Installed)" or "Starter, Check (Starter Removed and Disassembled)" (X 16 XEL Engine) in group "J".

Disassemble and reassemble starter – see operation "Valeo Starter, Disassemble and Reassemble" (X 16 XEL Engine) in group "J".

  Install

Insert starter from above and install fastening bolts – tightening torque 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft.

Connect cable connections to starter.

Install centre turbocharger heat shield.

Attach cable connection fastening nuts to starter.

Install fastening bolt for starter bracket in conjunction with exhaust manifold support.

Remove wiring trough and rear ground cable.

Install heat shield.

Install lower engine compartment cover – see operation "Lower Engine Compartment Cover, Remove and Install" in group "A".
