Exhaust Manifold, Remove and Install (X 14 XE, X 16 XEL)

  Remove

Detach front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.

Remove engine cover.

Disconnect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor (2) and place out of way.

Detach heat shield (1) from exhaust manifold – note dissimilar bolt lengths.

Detach exhaust manifold from cylinder head.

  Clean

Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket residues.

  Install

When replacing the exhaust manifold: Re-install oxygen sensor (3) – coat thread of oxygen sensor with special grease (black) – tightening torque 40 Nm / 30 lbf. ft.

 Object Number: 2398330 Size: DEFAULT

Attach exhaust manifold to cylinder head with new gasket – tightening torque 22 Nm / 16 lbf. ft. 1) .

Attach heat shield to exhaust manifold – tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.

Connect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor and place cable out of way – ensure cable routing is correct.

Install engine cover.

Attach front exhaust pipe with new gasket to exhaust manifold – tightening torque – 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.

1 ) Use new fastening nuts.
