Throttle Body (Throttle Valve Adjuster), Remove
and Install (X 18 XE1)
Remove
Remove engine cover (3).
Disconnect wiring harness plug (1) from hot film mass air flow
meter.
Detach air intake manifold (2) together with hot film mass air
flow meter from upper part of air cleaner housing and from throttle
body.
Press throttle valve lever (9) in direction of "full
acceleration" and hold in position. Lift retainer (7) with
screwdriver and remove ball socket (8) from ball head.
If present: remove shackle for cruise control Bowden cable (10).
Compress guide for cruise control Bowden cable at the two pins (4)
and remove from bracket – lay cruise control Bowden cable
aside. Detach retaining clamp (5) upwards and pull guide for
accelerator Bowden cable out of bracket and lay aside.
Detach engine vent hose (6) from cylinder head cover and
throttle body.

Remove hose for tank vent valve (2) from throttle body.
Detach coolant hoses (1) from throttle body – collect
escaping coolant.
Disconnect wiring harness plug (3) from throttle valve
adjuster.

Remove fastening bolts (1) – remove throttle body from
intake manifold.
Clean
Clean sealing surfaces and remove gasket residues.
Install
Attach throttle body with new gasket to intake manifold –
tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.
Attach wiring harness plug to throttle valve adjuster.
Attach coolant hoses and tank vent valve hose to throttle
body.
Attach engine vent hoses.

If present: allow guide for cruise control Bowden cable to
engage into bracket and connect cruise control Bowden cable onto
ball head. Install guide for accelerator Bowden cable into bracket
and insert retaining clamp behind intermediate washer. Clip ball
socket for accelerator Bowden cable to ball head – ensure
that retainer engages.
Attach air intake manifold together with hot film mass air flow
meter to upper part of air cleaner housing and to throttle
body.
Attach wiring harness plug to hot film mass air flow meter.
Install engine cover.
Adjust
When replacing the throttle body it is essential that the
adaptation value for the throttle valve in the EEPROM of the engine
control unit is deleted using TECH 2 – see corresponding
Checking Procedures.
Inspect
Charge and bleed cooling system – see operation "Cooling
System, Charge and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for
Leaks".
