Tie Rod, Remove and Install

  Remove

Remove corresponding tie rod end from tie rod – see operation "Tie Rod End, Remove and Install". Remove corresponding bellows on steering gear – see operation "Steering Gear Bellows, Replace".

Note:   On RHD vehicles, both bellows on the steering gear have to be removed to remove and install the left tie rod. On LHD vehicles, both bellows on the steering gear have to be removed to remove and install the right tie rod.

On vehicles with right- and left-hand drive a flat surface is to be found on the steering shaft side to hold against the steering rack (arrows).

  Remove

Detach tie rod with KM-6004-1 (SW32) or KM-6004-2 (1 – SW34) from steering rack – counterhold open ended spanner (2) against the flat surface on the steering rack in order to prevent damage to steering gear and steering rack.
