Bad engine idling, engine stalls
Cause:
Wiring harness to the idle air control valve may chafe
against the EGR-valve.
Production Solution:
As of June`98 the wiring harness is heat shielded in
production.
Special part:
No
Remedy:
In case of damaged harness, repair the wiring harness with
improved heat shielded part.

Wiring harness repair
Remove the air filter housing from the throttle body and
loosen the wiring harness channel (1) in the area of idle air control valve.
(Arrow shows the damaged area)
Check if the wiring harness is damaged.
Disconnect negative earth lead from battery.
Remove the plug from idle air control valve.
Open and remove the wiring harness channel (1) .
Detach wiring harness as far as necessary to allow work to
be performes correctly. Remove wiring harness insulation generously.
Adapt the repair kit on the damaged harness.
Separate the cables at suitable points; vary the separation
points in order to maintain the cross-section of the wiring harness as a
whole and avoid danger of short circuiting (2) ,
Repair wiring harness as described in brochure "Wiring
harness repair, KTA-1950".

Installation of the shielded hose
Fit the heat shielded hose (2) with fastener as shown in
the picture.
The heat shielded hose should be fixed with adhesive tape
(4) at the connection end of the harness (5) .
Refit the wiring harness in the wiring channel.
When inserting the harness in the harness channel (3)
ensure, that the grooved hose end (brown tape) is in the harness channel.
Close the wiring harness channel and fit harness plug to
the idle air control valve.
Refit air filter housing.
Connect negative earth lead to battery and reprogram all
electrically sensitive memories.
