Check con-rod bearing clearance (with plastigage)

Note: Con-rod bearing cap removed

Measure

Important: To prevent thread from breaking when removing con-rod bearing cap, remove grease from con-rod journal and lightly oil con-rod bearing shell. Do not rotate crankshaft.
1.	Lay 4x Plastigage (flexible plastic thread) over the entire width of the con-rod bearing journal Note: Plastigage is available via the "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" catalogue

Attach 4x con-rod bearing cap (2) with con-rod bearing shell
Note: Note identification on con-rod bearing cap and con-rod.

•	Tighten 8x bolt (1) 25 Nm + 60° Note: The old screw connection can be used again to check the con-rod bearing clearance

Detach 4x con-rod bearing cap (2) with con-rod bearing shell

•	Unscrew 8x bolts (1) Note: Note identification on con-rod bearing cap and con-rod

Measure 4x con-rod bearing clearance

•	Compare width of flattened plastic thread (arrow) to measuring scale Note: When reading the value, do not confuse millimetres and inches on the measuring scale

5.	Clean 4x con-rod bearing journal and con-rod bearing shell
