Check con-rod bearing clearance (with Plastigage) > < Replace crankshaft seal ring (front)

Con-rod Bearing, Replace

  Remove

1.   Remove upper part of oil pan LUREF_1.gif
2.   Detach oil intake pipe (2)
•   Unscrew bolt
3.   Remove oil baffle plate (1).
•   Unscrew 5x bolts
4.   Remove con-rod bearing cap
•   Position piston at BDC
•   Unscrew 2x nuts
•   Remove con-rod bearing cap
Note:   Note identification mark (3) on con-rod bearing cap and con-rod. Apply identification mark if not present

5.   Remove 2x bearing shell
6.   Visually check components
•   Con-rod bearing journal, con-rod bearing cap, bearing shells
7.   Check con-rod bearing clearance LUREF_1.gif

  Install

8.   Insert bearing shells
•   Degrease con-rod bearing journal
9.   Install con-rod bearing cap
•   Clean con-rod bearing journal and con-rod bearing shell and wet with engine oil
•   Coat threaded pin with MoS2 lubricating paste
Note:   Select a suitable lubricating paste from the parts catalogue
Important:   Narrow bead on con-rod bearing cap (arrow) points to engine timing side
•   Tighten 2x new nuts 25 Nm+100°+15°
Note:   Coat seat of nut with MoS2 lubricating paste

10.   Install oil baffle plate
•   Tighten 5x bolts 19 Nm
11.   Install oil intake pipe
•   Replace sealing ring
•   Tighten bolt 26 Nm
12.   Install upper part of oil pan LUREF_1.gif

Check con-rod bearing clearance (with Plastigage) > < Replace crankshaft seal ring (front)
