Timing, Adjust > < Replace rear toothed belt cover

Timing, Check

  Remove

1.   Open bonnet
2.   Remove engine cover
3.   Detach engine venting pipe (2)
•   Detach engine venting hose (3) from engine venting pipe
Release clamp
•   Unscrew 2x bolts (1)

4.   Install EN-46789 (2) in camshaft housing
•   Unscrew exhaust camshaft closure bolt
•   Screw in EN-46789 (2)
5.   Install EN-46789-100 (1) in camshaft housing
•   Unscrew and remove closure bolt, intake camshaft
•   Screw in EN-46789-100 (1)

6.   Set cylinder no. 1 to TDC of combustion stroke
•   Turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until reference drifts EN-46789 and EN-46789-100 engage audibly in camshafts
7.   Raise vehicle by its full height
8.   Detach the lower engine cover and right engine splash guard
9.   Remove ribbed V-belt
10.   Remove torsional vibration damper (1)
•   Unscrew 4x bolts
Note:   Counterhold toothed belt drive gear at bolt (2)

11.   Check crankshaft setting with EN-46788
Note:   If EN-46788 cannot be attached, the timing must be set
•   Unscrew bolt (arrow)
•   Tighten stud bolt (1) EN-46788
•   Attach positioning disk (4) EN-46788
Screw in bolt (3)
Screw in nut (2)
•   Remove positioning disk EN-46788

  Install

12.   Install torsional vibration damper
Note:   Observe correct fitting position
•   Tighten 4x bolt 25 Nm
Note:   Counterhold toothed belt drive gear at bolt
13.   Attach ribbed V-belt
14.   Install lower engine cover and right engine splash guard
15.   Lower vehicle by its full height
16.   Remove EN-46789 and EN-46789-100 from camshaft housing
17.   Install 2x sealing plug in camshaft housing
•   Replace 2x gaskets
•   Tighten 2x closure bolt
18.   Attach engine venting pipe
•   Attach engine venting hose to engine venting pipe
Fasten clamp
•   Tighten 2x bolt 9 Nm
19.   Install engine cover
20.   Close bonnet
