Check: Short to Voltage of Signal Circuit

  • Ignition OFF
  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    (Wiring Harness Connector XC54 )
  • Ignition ON
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC54)
    &
    Ground

less than 0.3 V

Voltage Measurement Current Value: V
Yes: No:

Check: Short to Ground of Signal Circuit

  • Ignition OFF
  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC54)
    &
    Ground

greater than 500 kOhm

Resistance Measurement Current Value: kOhm
Yes: No:

Check: Interruption of Signal Circuit

  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 56 (XC54)
    &
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC54)

0.5 ... 2.5 kOhm

Resistance Measurement Current Value: kOhm
Yes: No:

Check: Component

  • Remove electrical component from socket:
    K1_X125 Relay - Starter
  • Connect fused jumper wire to:
    K1_X125 Relay - Starter
    Socket Terminal 87
    &
    Battery voltage
  • Switch multimeter to alternating-current voltage measurement.
  • Measure voltage between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 56 (XC54)
    &
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC54)

Note:

Vehicle with automatic transmission:

  • Selector lever position: P-N
  • Brake pedal actuated

greater than 0.8 V

Check: Adjustment

  • Check the following component for proper operation:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    (intermittent problems, missing teeth, wrong reference point, incorrect gap position, etc.)

Check: Interruption of Signal Circuit

  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 56 (XC54)
    &
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC54)

greater than 2.5 kOhm

Resistance Measurement Current Value: kOhm

Check: Interruption of Signal Circuit

  • Disconnect wiring harness connector from:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
  • Measure resistance between the following terminals:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 56 (XC54)
    &
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal A

less than 5 Ohm

Cause Of Fault

E001 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine

Important:

Reset the concerned control unit with the diagnostic tester before replacing it. In order to do that, call up the "RESET" function from the PROGRAMMING menu of the current system on the diagnostic tester.

E002 Result: Repair other system
  • Repair the concerned circuit/component.
E003 Result: Defective Component
  • Defective component:
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
E004 Result: Interruption
  • Circuit interruption between:
    A84 Control Unit - Engine
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal 24 (XC54)
    &
    B30 Impulse Sensor - Crankshaft
    Wiring harness connector (wiring harness side) terminal B

or

  • Defective component:
